Introduction to the course


The course is intended to equip the trainee with knowledge; skills and attitudes that will helping her perform and manage health issue in the society.

The institution examines and assesses the students at the same time prepares transcripts


The student should sit for a final exam comprising of the core courses.


The duration for this course is 990 hours, organized in three terms.  The 1st term to covers the supportive subjects while the end and third term to cover the core subjects


Internal examination are be prepared and marked by KIAS.  Certificates are issued by KIAS certificate for internal examination and also statements of results on the student performance in each subject.


On completion of the one year course the student having satisfied the pass mark set he/she is awarded with a diploma in community health.


After completion of the course the student proceeds for a three month industrial attachment in various NGO’s, churches, charity organizations and health care providers before graduating.  Evidence of practical attendance is availed to the institution. The student is assessed during attachment.


The trainee should have

  1. C.S.E C- and above aggregate
  2. Certificate in social work (KNEC)
  3. Certificate in social development (KNEC)


Candidates registering for final exam must have completed the course having done all the CATs and having completed 75% attendance of the course time.


CATs are administered and kept by the examination office. CATs will be given of 30% while the final exam will be out of 70%.


  1. For fresh trainee from form fours – full time
  2. Working class in medical field – part time

The course duration is one year and examined internally

The course is examined by KIAS and later we will seek for collaboration with universities that offer this course and affiliate with them for the purpose of examination.

For this course to be marketable and also to ensure that the graduates are relevant to the market; Diploma in Community Health has been integrated with Diploma in Community Development and Social Work. This is because Diploma in Community health is internal, the trainee should also be exposed to KNEC exam in its relevant field and that can only be done after students have completed diploma in community health.  

Students willing to combine the two courses are integrated with the diploma in community development or diploma in social work.  They enroll for module I, II & III for two years and therefore by the time the student clears 3 years he/she has a diploma in community health together with KNEC diploma in either social work or community development.
